Peggy Ann Westveer Petry, 71, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025, following a lengthy illness. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 4 pm at Unity Church, 3791 Blairs Ferry Road NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402, with reception following service. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.
Peggy was born on May 7, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Lois (Johnson) Westveer. Peggy graduated from Jefferson High School and worked as an administrative assistant at businesses in both Iowa and Arizona. She appreciated Native American cultures and participated in many drum circles, sweat lodges, and ceremonies. She was also a member of Unity Church in Cedar Rapids. In her free time, you could find Peggy outdoors enjoying nature.
Peggy’s family was an especially important part of her life, and she treasured the time she spent with them. She loved many pets throughout her life, including dog, Goldie, a favorite among the grandkids. Her many hobbies included traveling, reading, doing puzzles, games, and playing cards with her friends. Peggy will also be remembered for her love of ice cream.
Through the Iowa Donor Network, Peggy was able to help those in need and contribute to scientific education. The family would also like to thank her companion Katie, the staff at Irving Point, and the nurses and doctors at St. Luke’s Hospital for caring for Peggy.
Survivors include her daughters Jenifer Hobert of Cedar Rapids, Nicole (Nick) Nassif of Marion, Michelle (Richard) Takes of Cedar Rapids, and Stephanie Deason of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Amber (Matt) Tielebein, Brittany Carlson, Jasmine Stafford, Harmony Stafford, Hunter Carlson, Emilee Stephens, Alexis Hobert, and Isabella; great-grandchildren, Adelynn, Maddox, and Everest; twin sister, Anna (Barry) Farber; and sisters, Cherie Norman and Monica White; nieces and nephews who were very special to her.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, David Hatt and Philip Petry; sister, Linda Hollandsworth; and nephew, Mitchell Jarnigan.
