Pearson, Dorothy M.
Dorothy M. Pearson, 95, a resident of Sunrise Hill Care and Rehab Center in Traer, formerly of Clutier, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at the care center under the care of Hospice Compassus. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 1, at 1 p.m. at the Clutier Community Church, with Pastor James Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Oneida Cemetery, rural Clutier. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Kruse-Phillips Clutier Chapel.
Dorothy was born March 6, 1914, in Bladensburg, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Bessie (Carter) Handy. She was united in marriage to Ora N. “Bud” Pearson on Dec. 29, 1934, in Ottumwa. Dorothy was a homemaker and farm wife. In her spare time, she enjoyed embroidery, sewing, and quilting. Dorothy also enjoyed cooking and baking, and her specialty was making turtle cookies for her grandchildren. She loved her daughter's dog Tobee as well. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Ora N. “Bud” Pearson, on Jan. 5, 2005; one grandson, Steve Cook; five brothers, Orien, Clyde, Millard and infants Frankie and Joe Handy; and three sisters, Mattie Bailey, Grace Crawford and Hazelle Handy.
Survivors include two sons, Ora Jay (and his wife, Marilyn) Pearson of Iowa City and Gary (and his wife, Linda) Pearson of Clutier; one daughter, Virginia Jensen of Clutier; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Deusen of Vinton; and one brother-in-law, Keith (and his wife, Joyce) Pearson of Van Horne. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice Compassus or Sunrise Hill Care and Rehab Center.
