Pearl A. Recker, 92, of Dyersville, died peacefully Thursday, April 17, 2014, surrounded by her family at Mercy Medical Center in Dyersville. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 21, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave. SW, Dyersville, where a vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Noah Diehm will officiate.
Pearl was born July 17, 1921, in Worthington, Iowa, the daughter of Ben A. and Rose Mary (Billmeyer) Schemmel. She married Gerald "Jerry" Recker on Aug. 30, 1945, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. They were blessed with 62 years together until Jerry's passing in 2008. Together they worked in partnership on the family farm near Sand Springs. In 1978, they moved to Dyersville to semi retire and pass on the century farm to the next generation.
Pearl remained active with bowling, golfing, traveling, shopping and card clubs. In recent years, she enjoyed an occasional stop at the casino, watching the Cubs and visiting with friends and family.
Her greatest passion was raising four sons with Jerry. Together they instilled Christian values, a strong work ethic and the importance of education. She especially treasured her time spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pearl was deeply com-mitted to her faith and a member of the Basilica St. Francis Xavier Parish.
Survivors include three sons, Ken (Anne) of Ames, Steve (Cathy) of Sand Springs and David of Dyersville; a daughter-in-law, Linda Recker of Iowa City; seven grandchildren, Beth (Brad) LaCoste, Christine (Brent) Jacobson, Michael (Sarah) Recker, Ben Recker, Jeff (Emily) Recker, Michaela (Jason) Coyle and Megan Recker; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Bernard Schem-mel; and two sisters-in-law, Gladys Schemmel and Madonna Gudenkauf.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Gary in 2014; siblings, Leo and Leroy Schemmel, Marion (Vernon) Gudenkauf and Jeanne (Walter) Moorman; and in-laws, Marie (Joe) Moorman, Raymond (Cecilia) Recker, Florian (Helen) Recker, Irvin (Catherine and Anna) Recker and Gilbert (Katherine) Recker, Ernie (Irene) Recker.
A memorial fund has been established.
