Payton J. Cook, 17, of Morrison, Ill., died Sunday, March 6, 2016, as a result of an automobile accident. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 11, at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Morrison with the Rev. Dick Adams, pastor of First Baptist Church in Morrison, and Pastor Mark Cannon of Hope Baptist Church in Bettendorf, co-officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery in Clinton, Iowa.
Payton was born June 4, 1998, in Iowa City, to Timothy J. Cook and Kaitlin S. "Carri" Van Roekel. He was educated in Cedar Rapids schools and was currently attending Morrison High School. Payton loved football, basketball, lifting, fishing, hanging with his friends, family, dogs, video games, being the class clown and making everyone around him feel special just for being themselves.
A memorial has been established to the Payton J. Cook Memorial Scholarship Fund at Morrison High School.
Survivors include his mother, Kaitlin "Carri" Van Roekel of Bettendorf; his father, Timothy J. Cook of Mechanicsville; grandparents, Paula McKee of Morrison, Klarene Cook of Mechanicsville and Spencer (Joyce) Van Roekel of Siloam Springs, Ark.; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
In respect of Payton's lifestyle, it's requested that guests attending the visitation and funeral service wear very casual attire.
