Pavek, Catherine N. (Kay) Neal
Catherine N. (Kay) Neal Pavek, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the chapel.
Kay was born Dec. 20, 1923, in Seminole, Okla., the daughter of W.M. and Sara C. (Shelnut) Neal. She married Frank Pavek on Aug. 29, 1968, in Spirit Lake. He passed away Oct. 7, 1997. Her last employment was the bookkeeper at Justice Electric Company for 20 years, retiring April 13, 1987.
Besides her church affiliation, she was a life member of the American Legion Hanford No. 5 Auxiliary, VFW No. 788 Auxiliary and Disabled American Veterans Unit 10 Auxiliary. Kay was a member of Cabane Locale No. 1305 of the 40 & 8 Auxiliary, Eagle's Club No. 2272 Auxiliary & Reac Club, Women of the Moose Chapter 515, The Women's International Bowling Congress and the 600 Bowling Club. She was secretary to three senior bowling leagues for many years at May's City Bowl, plus bowled in other leagues each week. She was a charter member of the Iowa State Sheriffs and Deputies Association, a past member of the Cosmetology Association of Oklahoma and a member of the Cosmetology Association in the State of Washington. Kay lived her life to the fullest, was active in several fields and loved working with people. She will be missed.
Catherine is survived by her grandsons, Eric Hopkins, Russ Hopkins, Tim Owens and Neal Owens; great-grandchildren, D.J. Owens and Lacey Goodwin; three nephews; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, a daughter, Patsy Ruth Owens; son, Russell L. Hopkins; three brothers; two sisters; and two nephews.
