Paulsen, Ronald G.
Ronald G. Paulsen, 82, of Scotch Grove, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Scotch Grove Presbyterian Church with burial in the Wyoming Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Pastor Jean Bruinsma and Pastor Dennis Gilbert will officiate at the services. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Paulsen, Scotch Grove; Ned Paulsen, Scotch Grove; Nick (Marla) Paulsen, Center Junction; Chris (Susan) Paulsen, Bellevue; nine grandchildren; and two sisters, Margie A. Hanken and Sara J. Paulsen, both of Monticello. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Dan and Dennis; and a brother, John.
Ronald G. Paulsen was born June 7, 1928, on the Paulsen family farm in Scotch Grove Township, Jones County, Iowa. He was the son of Anni (Ann) Magdalena Petersen and Emil Paulsen. Ron received his early education in Scotch Grove Township School #6. He graduated from the Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1946. Ron then started farming with his parents and his brother John. Ron Paulsen married Mary Ann Ingwersen on June 17, 1950, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Olin.
Ron was a well-known and lifelong farmer in Jones County, raising cattle, hogs and grain. He had belonged to the Jones County Cattlemen's Association. Ron was a lifelong member of the Scotch Grove Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder. He was one of the founding members of Jones County Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed collecting old farm tools, Indian artifacts, old books and photographs, and gardening. He always looked forward to his daily coffee fellowship with local friends and the annual gathering of the Petersen family and being a Vegetable Judge at the Great Jones County Fair. Even though he was on dialysis he still judged at the 2010 fair.
