Pauline Marie Askren (nee Sellers)
Muscatine
Pauline Marie Askren (nee Sellers) aged 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, Dec. 11, 2023. She had been a resident of Lutheran Living since November of 2020. She was eager to go to her "Forever Home," and was ready to meet the Lord whom she had loved and served nearly all her life. Her favorite verse was Proverbs 3:5,6 and she lived it out daily, "Trusting in the Lord with all her heart and leaning not on her own understanding but acknowledging Him and being directed by Him. One of her favorite hymns was "Because He Lives." She is now experiencing that second verse, having "crossed the river" and having "fought the final war with pain" and now experiencing victory as she is with the Lord.
Pauline was born to Frank Perry and Louise Sellers on March 3, 1930 at her grandparents’ home near Chariton, Iowa. She attended schools in Chariton, graduating in June of 1948. She married Walden Arthur Askren on Aug. 29, 1948 and was a student for a short time a Northwestern Bible school in Minneapolis, Minn. After the birth of her first child, she became a homemaker and dorm mother and later a Pastor’s wife in congregations in Minnesota, Oregon, Idaho and Iowa.
Pauline was a godly woman and a good friend to many, old and young. In later life, she enjoyed the Women’s Sunday School class at Calvary church in Muscatine and had been a teacher there. Before that, she was a member at Walnut Park Baptist Church.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Douglas and wife, Terry of Naperville, Ill., Linda and her husband Terrence Boyd of Hibbing, Minn., Philip and his wife, Marge of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Wes and his wife, Robyn of Atlanta, Ga., Stan and his wife, Mona of Terre Haute, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walden; brother, Dwight Seller; an infant son, Neil Alvin and an adult daughter, Karen Marie.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, at the funeral home. The family requests memorials be made to Community Foundation. The family would like to thank the staff at Lutheran Living and Compasses Hospice for their care.
