Pauline M. Guillaume, 92, of Cascade, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
Visitation for Pauline will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa, where a Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Mark Osterhaus presiding. Burial will be held at a later date at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade is assisting the family with arrangements.
Pauline was born February 18, 1932, in Sioux City, Iowa, daughter of Merwin B. and Frances M. Saunders. She graduated from High School in Sioux City, Iowa. On September 27, 1952, she was united in marriage to Alvin A. Guillaume Jr. at St. Boniface Church in Sioux City, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2010. Pauline was employed at Harding Junior High School and Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa until her retirement.
Pauline was always the one taking care of things. She was very accepting of the choices we made but still would put her two cents in where needed. She loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and was very proud talking about her children’s accomplishments with others. Pauline was a very intelligent humble woman who shared that through her baking and cooking skills and was sometimes the auto mechanic for the family. She enjoyed singing, playing card games, crocheting, and reading romantic mystery novels. If you needed help with sewing or flower arrangements, she was the person with the advice. She loved helping with events, both family fun events, and helping with her children’s businesses. She was sharp to the end, never missing a deadline, and was either early or on time for the party. She was always filled with smiles and laughter and will be missed dearly by all.
Those left to cherish her memory are her seven children, Cynthia Van Den Baard of Cedar Rapids, Paul (Lori) Guillaume of Sarasota, FL, Clyde (Mary Beth) Guillaume of Iowa City, Debra Stewart of Spring Hill, FL, Alvin (Jacquie) Guillaume of St. Peterburg, FL, Cheryl (Joel) Wood of Cascade, Francis (Cherie) Guillaume of Mt. Vernon; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one brother, John (Gerda) Saunders of Stone Lake, WI.
She is also preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law, Norm Van Den Baard; sisters, Bonnie Jean Saunders, Mary (Pat) Mustard, and Lucille M. Saunders.
