Pauline S. Hosch, 98, of Independence, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, at the Hiawatha Care Center.
She was born March 10, 1920, in Urbana, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Mary M. (Kleitsch) Zieser. She was raised in rural Urbana and attended rural Walker schools. On March 26, 1940, she married Carl G. Hosch in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spencer Grove. The couple farmed in southern Buchanan County until 1992, when they moved to Independence. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with her husband, watching her grandchildren's sporting events and playing cards with friends. She loved having family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren.
Pauline is survived by her children, Gary (Dorothy) Hosch, Swisher, Joan (Edward) Jamason, Cedar Rapids, Dean (Beth) Hosch, Tega Cay, S.C., Lyle (Margaret) Hosch, Independence, Marvin (Marcella) Hosch, Rushford, Minn., James (Nancy) Hosch, Lansing, Daniel (Debbie) Hosch, Independence, Wayne (Linda) Hosch, Walker, and Michael (Carolyn) Hosch, Rowley; her 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister; Dora Mae Coleman, Urbana; two brothers, Clifford Zieser, Independence, and Robert Zieser, Center Point; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Mary K. Zieser; her husband, Carl G. Hosch on March 19, 2011; a daughter, Judy Hosch, in 1942; two brothers, Donald and Carl Zieser; and two sisters, Edna Takes and Eleanor Hosch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at St. John's Catholic Church in Independence with the Rev. David Beckman presiding. Burial will be held at Spencer Grove Cemetery, rural Walker. A visitation will be held from 4 until 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Reiff Family Center & Funeral Home in Independence. A rosary will be said at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
