Pauline Hiner, 94, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at Brooklyn Community Estates. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, with the Rev. Brent de Silva officiating. Burial will be in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn.
Pauline is survived by her husband, Harold; her son, George Hiner (Lori) of Brooklyn; four grandchildren, Tricia Allen (Eric) of Bismark, N.D., Derek Hiner (Stephanie) of Des Moines and Jennifer Peska and Justin Peska, both of Lewisville, Texas; and five great-grandchildren, Autumn Waterbeck, Faith Allen, Jayden Graham, Hunter Hiner and Paisley Smith. Also surviving are her siblings, Emma Yossi of Southport, Pa., John Yossi (Helen), Monticello, Marie Bartles of Monticello and Herman Yossi (Ginny) of Monticello; and a son-in-law, Larry Peska of Flower Mound, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Joyce Peska; and her siblings, Alfred Yossi, Bertha Yossi, Elfreda Behrends, Ruth Ann Wroblewski and Helen Stoneking.
Pauline was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred Yossi and Emma Egger Yossi. She attended the Jones County schools and married Harold Hiner on March 27, 1953, in Monticello. She worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids for a few years, and the veterinary clinic in Brooklyn. She enjoyed sewing and gardening. She liked to play cards and loved to dance. Pauline was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn and taught Sunday school for 42 years. She was a loyal Hawkeye fan and watched their games as often as possible. Most of all, Pauline was devoted to her family and cherished her time with them.
