Pauline J. Doyel, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church with visitation before the service, starting at 9:30 a.m. A luncheon at the church will follow.
Pauline is survived by her daughter, Terresa Burdick and husband Doug of Temple, Texas; son, Michael Doyel of Draper, Utah; grandson, Joshua Burdick of Austin, Texas; granddaughter, Alex Burdick of Temple, Texas; great-granddaughter, Lucy Burdick of Austin, Texas; brother, Leland Johnson and wife Betty of Shellsburg; many loving nieces and nephews; and a dear companion, Jim Wahe of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Nathan Doyel; her parents; brothers, Carl Johnson, Arthur Johnson and Sidney Johnson; and sisters, Esther Geater, Helen Grau, Gladys Lysell and a sister in infancy.
Pauline was born Sept. 28, 1932, in Brandon, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Hilma Erickson Johnson. She married Nathan Doyel on July 20, 1952, in Vinton, Iowa, and they shared 45 wonderful years together. She was proud to be a Navy wife, traveling with him around the world. Pauline spent most of her life as a caregiver, most recently for 15 years at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center and she was a longtime member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
Her greatest joys in life were her family and being there for anyone who needed her. Her beautiful smile and hugs and kisses will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established.
