Pauline DeSmet, 95,
of Victor, passed away Friday, March 6, 2015, at Brooklyn Community Estates. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor with Father Brian Shepley presiding. Interment will at Calvary Cemetery in Victor. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, with the family present from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor.
Memorials may be designated to the Pauline DeSmet Memorial Fund and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 485, Victor, IA 52347.
Pauline was born on Oct. 23, 1919, in rural Victor, to Emil and Louise (DeDecker) DeSmet. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Victor Public High School. In 1945, she moved with her parents to her current home in Victor. She was employed by Farmers Savings Bank in Victor for 37 years.
Pauline loved a good game of cards, playing bingo, and even at 95, always completed the daily crossword puzzle in The Gazette. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, visiting 49 states, only missing Alaska. Pauline was also was an avid coin collector. She was a lifelong member of St. Bridget Church in Victor, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Marion Study Club.
Pauline will be missed by her nephews, Jim (Susan) DeSmet and John (Cindy Follman) DeSmet, all of Victor; great-nephews, Chris (Julie) DeSmet of Center Point and Bill (Marcie) DeSmet of Williamsburg; great-niece, Jenny (Chris) Chikos of Blair, Neb.; and great-great-nieces and nephews, Emma, James, Grace, Drew, Will, Ryan, Thomas and Madeline.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and wife, John and Mary Helen DeSmet; and her nephew, Robert DeSmet.
