Paula Marie Knight
Cedar Rapids
Paula Marie Knight of Cedar Rapids died on May 30, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center with her husband, Gene at her side. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, Cedar Rapids, 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids, with burial to follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Paula was born on Aug. 30, 1945, in Cedar Rapids, to Paul and Lela (Schinkle) Wieneke. Graduated from Regis High School in 1961 and was united in marriage to Gene Knight on Oct. 26, 1961, at All Saints Catholic Church. Paula stayed home to raise her two children, who were the center of her life. She was also an integral part of the prayer group at St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she met her closest friend. After raising her children, she went back to Kirkwood to obtain a certification in activities, which allowed her to work at Willow Gardens as an activity’s coordinator. Paula enjoyed bringing joy to the residents and made many life-long friends. She enjoyed working with the seniors so much she would often say she would do the work even if they didn’t pay her.
Paula’s greatest joys in life was spending time with her family and friends. Christmas was a favorite time of year for her, when she enjoyed shopping for and filling shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse. Her faith in Jesus was also very important to her and she desired to serve Him the best she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lela Wieneke.
She is survived by husband, Gene Knight; daughter, Therese (Thomas) Knight-High; son, Joe (Jennie) Knight; grandchildren, Lissette, Gideon and LeaRuth High; along with seven brothers-in-law.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
