PAUL E. USHER
Cedar Rapids
Paul Usher, 90, passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at the Woodlands at Meth-Wick Manor, after a lingering illness. He had been residing at the Manor at Meth-Wick. At Paul's request, there will be no service at this time. Paul requested he be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Nashua, Iowa.
Paul was born in Chickasaw County, Iowa, the son of Otto Usher and Sylvia DeGroff Usher on Sept. 29, 1923.
He is survived by one brother, Delbert Usher, of Cedar Rapids; and nieces and nephews and their families.
Preceding Paul's in death was his twin sister, Pearl Usher who died at the age of nine. Paul had fond and loving memories of Pearl, who passed away at such an early age.
Also preceding his death were sisters, Alice Swinton (Arthur), Imogene Kruse (Verle) and Donna Mittan (Ed); and one brother, Harold Usher (Eleanor).
Paul lived most of his life in Linn County on his beautiful acreage on Zika Avenue in Cedar Rapids, with his parents, Otto and Sylvia Usher. He served his time in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and served as administrative assistant for Admiral Chester Nemitz. Paul retired from the Cedar Rapids office of Quaker Oats. He loved the wildlife that often appeared at his doorstep to be fed. After his health began to fail, he was unable to care for the little farm and the critters. He moved into Meth-Wick Manor and enjoyed the companionship of the many residents living there.
