Paul G. Steuri, 84, of Earlville, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his family. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Peace United Church of Christ in Monticello. Mike Cleeton will officiate. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque. Military honors will be accorded.
Paul was born March 25, 1930, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Adolph and Freida (Lengenhager) Steuri. He attended country school on Hardscrabble Road until the eighth grade. He began ninth grade at the high school in town and began to farm with his family. He met Shirley Bauer while she was visiting her sister-in-law in Monticello, and they married Nov. 18, 1950, in Dubuque. He served in the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953, and was discharged as a corporal. When he returned from the service, he began working for Pepsi- Cola in Dubuque and then they bought the family farm in 1955.
Paul and Shirley started a Rochester Silo dealership in 1959 on the farm and eventually moved to the north end of County Road X-47 in 1974.
Paul will be fondly remembered for selling kettle corn, for his love of NASCAR races, storytelling, picnics at the cabin, listening to polka music, his tinkering and inventing skills and his tractor re-storation.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; six children, Patricia Steuri of Earlville, Susan (James) Tucker of Monticello, Diane (Mike) Russell of Kirkland, Wash., Steve (Wanda) Steuri of Monticello, Julie Steuri of Dubuque and Kathy (Jamey) Dirks of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Rose of North Liberty, Daryn (Lauren) Dirks, Deidra and Jaryd, all of Cedar Rapids, Ashley and Wesley Russell of Kirkland, Wash., and Aaron Steuri of Monticello; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Nicholas Rose; siblings, Edna Gadient and Don Steuri, both of Monticello; and a brother-in-law, Wayne (Betty) Bauer of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Otto (Berdina) Steuri, Freida (George) Eiben and Herm (Martha) Steuri.
