Paul Donald John Schaul, 84, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022, at his home in Manchester. He was born March 22, 1937, in Masonville, the son of Aloysius and Viola (Stronck) Schaul. He was raised in the Masonville area and graduated from Divine Word Seminary School in Wisconsin.
On Oct. 15, 1960, Paul was united in marriage to Marilyn Lueck in Dyersville. Eight children were born to this union. Paul entered the United States Army in December 1961 and served honorably. Paul and Marilyn farmed most of their married life near Coggon. They were livestock and crop farmers. They moved to Manchester in 2010.
Paul was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ryan and St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. He was a member and commander of the Coggon American Legion and Knights of Columbus, achieving the Fourth Degree. Paul enjoyed going to his grandkids sporting events, playing cards, gardening and spending time with friends and family.
Survivors include his seven children, LuAnne (John) Biggs of Masonville, Linda (John) Sturbaum of Walker, Liza (Louis) Kaufman of Urbandale, Loras (Samantha) Schaul of Cedar Rapids, Larry (Annette) Schaul of Springville, Tom (Susie) Schaul of Earlville and Alan (Gena) Schaul of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Arthur (Betty) Schaul and Ed (Sherry) Schaul of Manchester, Charlie (Barb) Schaul of Colorado and Duane Schaul of Cedar Rapids; and one sister, Marilyn Ann (Rick) Miller of Manchester.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; his parents; a daughter, Laura Schaul, in infancy; two grandchildren, Kara Michael and Patrick Michael; and one brother, Jimmy Schaul.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester with the Rev. Gabriel Anderson presiding. Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa. Friends may also call from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Ryan, Iowa.
Casket Bearers: Nathan Biggs, Justin Biggs, Chad Michael, Jared Michael, Brett Michael, Alex Sturbaum, Michael Schaul and Matthew Schaul.
