Paul Richard "Dick" Andersen, 81, passed away Feb. 25, 2022, at the Meth-Wick Community after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. A private family celebration of his life and inurnment at Cedar Memorial Mausoleum has been held.
Dick was the son of Paul and Dorothy Andersen, and a lifelong Cedar Rapidian. After graduating from Washington High School in 1958, he served in the Army Reserves for 10 years. He attended Iowa State University, was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and graduated in 1962 with a B.S. in electrical engineering. He began his career with Iowa Electric Light and Power and retired from Square D Co., after 33 years. Dick traveled world-wide in his capacity as Square D's International Standards Manager.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda, of 60 years and sons, Peter and Bradley (Kathleen) and two grandchildren, Caroline and Peter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Dick will be remembered for his warm smile, gentle spirit, generosity and humble lifestyle. His family was the center of his life. Family vacations were a cherished annual tradition. Dick loved the outdoors; biking, walking, and camping. During his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling with family.
Dick poured himself into service commitments at his family's church, Kenwood Park United Methodist, as well as with Boy Scout Troop 108. He was a Sunday School teacher for 35 years. He was a longtime volunteer in the Spiritual Care department at St. Luke's hospital, a Stephen Minister, a Meals on Wheels driver and a recipient of the KCRG Nine Who Care Award.
The family expresses their gratitude for the compassionate, loving care provided for him at Meth-Wick Woodlands and the friends who continued their visits to him even though his memory faded.
Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous, Meth-Wick Community or Kenwood Park United Methodist Church.
