Paul “PJ” Smith, 33, of Solon, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022. A public visitation will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Marion Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow at 12:30 p.m.
PJ was born on Nov. 19, 1988, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Rich and Joan (Darrington) Smith. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 2007. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training in 2011, then continued on to receive his Master’s Degree. PJ was the athletic trainer for the Iowa Field Hockey team for one season. He then worked as a chef at Red’s and 30 Hop.
PJ loved his dogs, cooking and creating new dishes, sunsets, and was a fan of the Manchester City Soccer Team and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
He is survived by his wife, Kristen Smith; parents, Rich and Joan Smith; sisters, Amy (Jonathan) Doerrfeld and Maria (David) Romero; grandparents, Jerry and Helen Smith and Dean and Diane Darrington; a large extended family and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in PJ’s honor to the GuideLink Center in Iowa City or the Linn Co. Mental Health Access Center.
