Paul was born August 31, 1935, in Le Mars, Iowa, son to John and Eleanor “Ella” (Bohnenkamp) Ortmann. Paul earned his High School Diploma and enlisted in the Army. He was honorable discharged in 1956. Paul worked as a factory worker for P & H and retired from Cedar Rapids Inc.
Paul’s family was the most important thing to him. He enjoyed sitting in the garage and having a beer with his family during cookouts and gatherings. He was always helping his brother, Jerry, with various projects, and helping people in the neighborhood by mowing their lawns or shoveling their driveways. He loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.
He also enjoyed golfing and watching Westerns. He was a volunteer member for the Lisbon Fire Department, UAW 1366, Machinist Union, and briefly on the city council.
Paul is survived by his children, Mark (Maureen) Angelini, Debra (Gay) Williams, Denise Ortmann, and Julia (Steve) Underwood; brothers, Jerry Ortmann and Jack (Cheryl) Ortmann; sister, Betty O’Toole; grandchildren, Tina, John, Rebekah, Amber, Vicki, Eric, Tim, Drew, and Gabriel; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Aleta Abell; and siblings, Roman Ortmann, Mary Jane Delpending, Dick Ortmann, Robert Ortmann, and Rita Smith.
The family extends a special Thank-You to Above and Beyond Hospice, Visiting Angels, and all of his neighbors.
