Paul N. Hanson, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away
on Thursday, April 9, 2020, at St. Luke's Hospital from complications of COVID-19. He was born on Jan. 6, 1938, in a log cabin in Plato, Mo.,
to Howard and Erma Hanson. He graduated from Franklin High School. On June 19, 1957, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. On Nov. 3, 1973, he married Corinne Klein and they were happily married for 46 years. Paul had a daughter, Paula Simmons, from a previous marriage. Paul and Corinne adopted two children, Chris Hanson and April Childress. Paul worked for 46 years at Rockwell Collins. Some of Paul's favorite pastimes included working out in the garden, yardwork, reading, watching movies and sports, and woodworking projects. He especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren. Paul was an active member of the Church of God for many years, singing in the church choir, playing on the softball team and attending church camp.
Paul is survived by his wife, Corinne of 46 years; his children, April (Darrell) Childress, Chris (Buffy) Hanson and Paula (Ray) Simmons; his siblings, Ruth Lindle of Springfield, Ore., Gail (Chuck) Burroughs of Happy Valley, Ore., Derald (Clarice Hanson of Big Stone Gap, Va., Ken (Nancy) Hanson of Seven Hills, Ohio, Marjeane Hunter of Ankeny and Lois (Dan) Dunek of Brownsville, Texas; four grandchildren, Tyler and Kanda Childress, Becky and Joe Simmons; and two great-grandchildren, Serena and Allen Simmons.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law; his brother, William Howard, who died at birth; and his brothers-in-law, Bruce Lindle, Dale Hunter and Maurice Klein.
Memorial and graveside services will be held at a later date when it is safe to do so. Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association or to St. Luke's Hospice.
Paul's family would like to thank Heritage Specialty Care for the care that he received during the last 10 years of his life and for St. Luke's Hospice for his care in his final days.
