The Jones, Herkelman, Lawrence and Dykhuizen families sadly announce the passing of their beloved patriarch, Paul Jones, 75, due to complications with lung cancer. On March 23, 2023, at home surrounded by love and family, he left this world at peace.
Paul was born on May 9, 1947, in New London, Conn., to John Paul and Ana Jones (McMullin). In the spring of 1966, he graduated from Marion High School and promptly enlisted into the U.S. Army. In September 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Lynda Morrison, from Cedar Rapids. At the time of his death, he felt blessed to still be married to the love of his life, to have three loving daughters and seven grandchildren all of whom he adored and saw often. Dad was extremely proud of his military service to this country, enjoyed working for the USPS as a letter carrier for many years, but his pride and passion was as a small business owner for Guns Ltd. until he retired.
Paul is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lynda; his brother, James Jones; stepbrothers, David and John Jones; daughters, Dawn (Stan) Herkelman, Deborah (Richard) Lawrence and Doreen Dykhuizen; seven grandchildren, Joshua and Brandon Lawrence, Connor, Dalton, Madison and Kaiya Dykhuizen and Samuel Herkelman; as well as his faithful sheltie pup, Rudy.
He was preceded in death by his beloved father, John Paul (JP) Jones; his mother, Ana McMullin; his newborn son, James Robert; and his beloved sheltie, Buck.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 2, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 3, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Interment with military honors will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
