Funeral services for Paul Edward Hermiston, 92, of Bennett, Iowa, who died peacefully in Mercy Iowa City on Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, will be held Friday, Feb. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tipton, Iowa. The Rev. Richard Okumu will officiate the service. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Fry Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, with the rosary to be prayed at 4 p.m. To honor Paul's life, a memorial has been established for the Bennett Library Fund. A native of Cedar County, Paul was born on March 13, 1925, in DeWitt, Iowa. He was the son of John and Vivian Ryan Hermiston. Paul attended Bennett High School, and, on Sept. 6, 1947, he was united in marriage to Donnalee Whitaker in Davenport, Iowa. Paul was a farmer all of his life, and was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tipton. Above all, Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Edwards; brother, Raymond Hermiston; and infant son, Walter Paul Hermiston.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Donnalee, who resides in Prairie Hills Assisted Living; five daughters, Lynn (Hans) Jess of Olin, Iowa, Carol (Jerry) Oakley of Tipton, Mary (Dan) Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Patricia (Wayne) Yarolem of Tipton and Ann (Marty) Mente of Tipton; two sons, Philip (Terri) Hermiston of Bennett and Lyle (Tonya) Hermiston of Tipton; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Drake of Davenport, Ladean Christenson of Davenport and Doris Bennett of Davenport; and brothers, Lionel Hermiston of Walcott, Iowa, and John Hermiston of Blue Grass, Iowa.
