Paul Crumes, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. A private burial will take place at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, assisted the family.
Paul was born Aug. 1, 1933, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Lewis and Ruth (Hammersley) Crumes. He attended Ottumwa High School and Kirkwood Community College. On Aug. 8, 1962, Paul was united in marriage to Avis Landtiser in Missouri. Paul worked for Linkbelt and Duane Arnold and retired in the late ’80s. He loved going to the casino, scratch-off tickets, bowling, watching the Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears. Paul was a member of the Die-Hard Cub Fan Club and never missed the opportunity to show the card from his wallet. The last game he attended was July 5, 2016, the same year they won the World Series. Paul enjoyed singing and listening to Elvis. His humorous attitude and friendly nature will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his daughter, Shelley Crumes; siblings, Connie (Myron) Gordin, Jim (Henri) Crumes, and Reggie (Karol) Crumes; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Avis; granddaughter, Blair E. Burke; and siblings, Harold Crumes, Madeline Johnson, Margaret Gordin, and Marvin Crumes.
Memorials may be directed to any pet rescue of donor’s choice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
