Paul Carl Jones, 67, of Iowa City, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at his home.
Paul was born Feb. 4, 1954, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the son of Paul Raymond and C. Jeanne (Behrendsen) Jones.
He attended grade school at Emmetsburg Catholic School and in 1972, graduated from Emmetsburg Public High School. Paul continued his education at Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg and the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He completed an apprenticeship as a Journeyman Plumber and was a member of Local 125 Plumbers and Steamfitters. He spent more than 30 years working in Johnson and Linn counties on large construction plumbing projects.
Paul worked on projects including the IATL Iowa Advanced Technology Laboratories designed by Frank Gehry, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and many other projects and buildings in the eastern Iowa area.
On Aug. 21, 1976, Paul was united in marriage to Louise Ruth Wikert. Paul and Louise were blessed by two sons, Charles Asa Jones and Daniel Paul Jones, both born at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Paul and Louise later divorced in May 2003.
Paul loved to be outdoors hunting and fishing. He found the flow of the river and the tug of the fishing line the most relaxing of ventures. Paul made many friends throughout his life. He loved to share his talent of grilling and cooking with family, neighbors and friends. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Surviviors include sons, Charles Jones of Iowa City and Daniel (Kristen) Jones, and their son, Jack Jones of North Liberty; mother, C. Jeanne Jones of Urbandale; sisters, Danna (Al) Nall of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Pat (Ron) Kelly of Urbandale; Louise Wikert Smith of Solon; three nieces; and a nephew.
Paul was preceded in death by a sister, Robin Jeanne Jones; and his father, Paul.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Lensing Funeral Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave., in Iowa City. On Saturday, Jan. 15, Paul's family invites you to stop by the Iowa City VFW between 3 and 6 p.m. to help celebrate Paul's life.
An additional celebration will be held along the Iowa River at a later date.
Instead of flowers and plants, the family kindly asks that memorials to be directed to The Paul Jones Memorial Fund.
