Patrick Joseph Vandewalle, 59, of Vinton, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, with a visitation beginning an hour before, at All Saints Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery, with military honors following the Mass.
Patrick is survived by his fiancee, Sabrina Lane; his two children, Shannon (Patrick) Dahmen and Sean (Maria) Vandewalle; granddaughter, Morgan Dahmen; grandsons, Caleb and Liam Vandewalle; his mother, Bernadine Vandewalle; a sister, Mary (Tom) Tharp; his aunt, Sister Carol Anne Heitgen, OSF; and his four-legged best friend, Gus.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Vandewalle, in 2010.
Patrick Joseph Vandewalle was born Nov. 11, 1956, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Bernadine (Heitgen) Vandewalle. He proudly served in and retired from the U.S. Air Force. He completed training and worked as a nuclear medical tech in Tennessee before moving to Vinton.
He enjoyed cars, airplanes and target practicing. He was competitive, determined and had an amazing spirit about him. The three things that were most important to Patrick were his family, his faith, and living life to its fullest. He will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha and his nurse, Roxanne Mumford, RN, for the love, support and tender care given to Patrick.
