PATRICK R. MCCAMMON
Fort Wayne, Ind.
Patrick R. McCammon, 62, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, with his wife of 40 years, Val, at his side. Born Sept. 10, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at 16 years old he battled Hodgkin's lymphoma; that radiation treatment ultimately caused congestive heart failure.
Pat earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering at Iowa State University and started his career at Amana Refrigeration. In 1985, he joined Magnavox (Fort Wayne, Ind.), then UnderSea Sensor Systems (USSI).
After earning his Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) and a certified systems engineering professional designation, Pat opened SkySight Technologies in 2007. He and his team worked on ocean-based and underwater sensor development projects, as well as homeland security, counterdrug enforcement, non-lethal weapons needs and other specialized government applications. In 2017, Pat added SkySight Engineering to his business ventures, specializing in unique commercial projects. He worked actively each day until his passing, and his engineering creativity resulted in 12 U.S. patents.
Pat was an energetic member of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) for 36 years. After years of on-course driving, he joined the Club Racing Stewards program, and for the past three years served on the national SCCA Court of Appeals.
Pat is missed by three loving sisters, Gail Dawson, Gena McLaughlin and Beverly Deskins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents, Robert and Mary, preceded him in death.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 16, and from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6163 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne. A graveside service will be held later in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana.
