Patrick “Pat” Williams, 78, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, September 1, 2025. The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids assisted the family.
Pat was born on March 7, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, to Ted and Violet (Barbier) Williams. He graduated from Jefferson High School and went on to attend the University of Northern Iowa. After serving in the United States Army in Germany, he spent six months touring Europe—much to his mother’s chagrin. On January 24, 1976, he married Terri McDonald in Cedar Rapids.
Pat began his career with an apprenticeship through the Local 125 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and later taught welding at the union hall. Colleagues often said Pat was the best welder they knew. Known by many as “Big Guy,” he was a proud member of Local 125 and the “To The Hunt” hunting club alongside his dad, Kenny Banks, Fritz, Tom Rosenberg, and his brother Ted. The group was known for always hitting their marks and celebrating afterward with shots of peppermint schnapps.
He loved his boxer, Dax, and took him everywhere. Pat was even-tempered, he never let anything ruffle his feathers and was quick with one-liners. When his sister Kim would come home with flashy Rocker Dog shoes, he would say, “They saw you coming!”
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Terri Williams of Cedar Rapids; children, Bob (Linda) Williams and Michael (Susan) Williams; grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda, Coral, and Piper; siblings, Chris (Gina) Williams and Kim York (John Samuel); brother-in-law, James A. Maurer; sister-in-law, Linda Williams; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Violet Williams; brother, Ted Michael Williams; and mother-in-law, Helen E. Maurer.
