Patrick “Pat” Thomas Courtney, 69, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Sept. 13, 2023. Celebration of Life gathering will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. The family requests that everyone attending to wear Packers or Hawkeyes attire in honor of Pat.
Patrick was born Dec. 11, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, the son of William and Kathleen (Novak) Courtney. He attended Jefferson High School. Pat was united in marriage to Linda Kriz on May 2, 1981, at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church. He worked at Quaker Oats for over 42 years, retiring in 2013. Pat enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, wintering in Texas, watching the Hawkeyes, Packers, Yankees, and most of all spending time with his friends and family.
Pat is survived by his wife Linda Courtney; his daughter Breann (Jason) Sells; his mother Kathleen Novak; two brothers, Mike Courtney and John (Molly) Novak; two sisters, Judy (Lew) Gordon and Terri (Bill) Biggs; as well as his beloved nieces and nephews, especially Ryan Kriz, Josh Novak, Chris Novak, Lauren Novak, Heather Plathe and Britney Gordon.
He was preceded in death by his father, his stepfather Wesley Novak, nephew Derek Gordon, as well as two infant brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, or the American Cancer Society in his name.
