Pat was born on March 30, 1934, in Afton, Iowa, the son of John and Leta (Shiflett) Owens. He completed 10th grade before enlisting in the United States Army at the age of 16. Upon returning from the Korean War, he was employed for many years with the Local 43 Union, until his retirement. Pat was united in marriage to Loretta (Willson) Broghamer in 1977, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, Iowa. He was a loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, spent countless hours gardening and loved sharing his produce with family and friends. Together with his wife Loretta, he loved to gamble. Pat is survived and lovingly remembered by his stepchildren, Daniel Broghammer of Davenport, Iowa, and Becky Roberts of Tucson, Ariz.; a host of extended family members, including stepgrandchildren, and nieces and nephews, including Kathy, Trish and Cindy; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Loretta; and sister, Mickey.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at UnityPoint Hospice and everyone at the Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit for the care they gave to Pat during his final days. They also would like to thank his faithful neighbors and dear friend, Connie, for all the help and support they gave to Pat in the last years.
