PATRICK MICHAEL MURPHY
Shueyville
Patrick Michael Murphy, 73, of Shueyville, passed away Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, in his home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon with Father Tim Sheedy presiding. Burial will be in Shueyville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil.
Patrick was born June 7, 1942, in Adrian, Minn., the son of William and Vivian (Flannery) Murphy. He graduated from St. Adrian High School and St. Mary's College in Winona, Minn. Pat worked at Rockwell Collins for over 36 years and retired in 2002 as director of material/
logistics. Pat was united in marriage to Rena Taylor on March 31, 1984. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and especially his Canadian fishing trips with his son, Tom, and one of his best friends, Bob. Pat was actively involved in volunteer work with Boy Scouts, Mercy Hospital, the 6th Judicial Foster Care Review board and the Abbe Center. He also served as president of the Cedar Rapids Community Council of PTSA and as mayor of Shueyville for eight years. After his retirement, he and Rena spent their winters in Arizona. Because of Pat's passion for genealogy they also traveled to discover his family history. His strong Irish heritage extended beyond St. Patrick's Day, and he enjoyed sharing its music, food and spirits with friends.
Pat is survived by his wife, Rena; children, Tim (Beth) Murphy of Bozeman, Mont., Tom Murphy (Monica Winterberg) of Iowa City, Joe Murphy of Spokane, Wash., and Molly (Mike) Potter of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Alex, McKenzie, Jake, Abbey, Luke, Sami, Megan, Nic and Alex; and many special friends.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous in his name.
