PATRICK JOSEPH MAHER
Alton, Mo.
Patrick Joseph Maher, 74, of Alton, Mo., was born July 29, 1947, in Okinawa, Japan. He passed away May 6, 2022, at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Mo.
Pat was raised and attended school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He went to Immaculate Conception grade school and graduated from Regis High School. He earned a BS in mechanical engineering from Hawaii.
Pat was in the Merchant Marines for 30 years as a mechanical engineer working on ship engines for the U.S. Navy as well as oil tankers, giant container ships, roll on, roll off ships transporting automobiles and supply vessels. He literally sailed the "Seven Seas" all around the world. His home base was in Hawaii, where he lived most of his life.
He retired with his wife, Valerie, to Alton, Mo. He was a volunteer chaplain at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Mo.
Survivors include brothers, John (Rose), Tim (Kathleen), Jerry (Irma), Walt (Jean) and Frank (Susan); sister, Colleen (Roger) Cassill; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Marqueta Henry Maher; his wife, Valerie Freitas Maher; brother, Edward Maher Jr. (Cynthia); and sister, Gertrude Maher.
