Patrick, Helen Lucille
Helen Lucille Patrick, 82, of Elkader, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 20, 2013, at Central Community Hospital, Elkader. A wake will be held at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m.
Helen is survived by her two sons, Edmund (Melissa) Patrick and Harlan (Joyce) Patrick of Elkader; Mrs. Gary (Joyce) Edwards Patrick of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; and grandchildren, Heather Patrick, Benjamin Patrick, Christi Edwards and David Hemby.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Hank Asmus; her husband, Earl Patrick; son, Gary Earl Patrick; and brothers, Edmund Jr. and Donald Lauer.
Helen was born Nov. 29, 1930, to Edmund and Bena (Fecht) Lauer in Waterloo, Iowa. Helen married her husband Earl Patrick on July 25, 1948, at the Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union, Iowa. For 39 years, Helen owned and operated Patrick's Tavern and Café with her late husband, Earl. Helen also worked 15 years for Rise Incorporated in Elkader, Iowa. Helen was a member of Proteus Study Club and a Sunday school teacher at Peace United Church of Christ. Helen loved her children, grandchildren, gardening, crafts, sewing and her cats. She was a very loving lady with a big heart and will be missed.
