Patricia Lou Yilek, 72,
of Cedar Rapids, died late Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 2 p.m. Friday at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church by Father Christopher Podhajsky. Burial: Saint John's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, where a vigil service begins at 7 p.m. The Czech Heritage Singers will honor Pat with song at
5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Patricia is survived by her sister, Donna (Yilek) Heaston, Corona, Calif.; nephews, William Heaston, Corona, Calif., Martin (Sheri) Heaston, Chino, Calif., and Tim Heaston, Omaha, Neb.; niece, Angela (Terry) Harbour, Riverside, Calif.; great-niece and great-nephew, Katherine and Robert Heaston, both of Chino, Calif.; stepgreat-nephew, Tommy (Stefanie) Harbour and sons, Jackson and Jamison, San Bernardino, Calif.; and a stepgreat-niece, Christine Harbour of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her father, Milo, in 1973; her mother, Agnes, in 2000; and her brother-in-law, David Heaston, in 2011. Patricia was born May 16, 1942, at home in Cedar Rapids, the second daughter of Milo and Agnes (Roushar) Yilek. Pat attended Taylor Elementary School and Saint Wenceslaus High School and graduated from Regis High School in 1960. She attended Kirkwood Community College and was employed with the Visiting Nurses Association for many years, retiring in 2008.
Pat was a lifelong member of Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church and a member of the Dominic Catholic Social Club until it disbanded. She immensely enjoyed music, singing with the church choir and the Czech Heritage Singers. Pat had great times during monthly meetings with the Regis Rockers (high school classmates). She also enjoyed joining other good friends in the Tripoley Card Club, Yaa-Hoo Card Club and the Venture Club.
Pat was very proud of her Czech ancestry and was a member of Lodge Junior American Czech 388 Czechoslovak Society of America.
Her gentle spirit and infectious smile will be missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank Mercy Medical Center and the Hospice House of Mercy for their special care of Pat.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church and Hospice of Mercy.
