Patricia "Pat" F. Wachal, 85, of Alburnett, Iowa, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Linn Manor Care Center. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, conducted by Pastor Jon Moss. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Pat was born April 20, 1932, in Clarence, Iowa, the daughter of Bruce and Velma (Bower) Long. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids. On Oct. 12, 1952, she was united in marriage to Max Wachal at St. James Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Pat worked with her husband for many years at WW Locker System in Alburnett. She also was employed at Alburnett schools as a cook and the Boston Store in Marion as a sales associate. Pat was a member of the Alburnett United Methodist Church and the Alburnett Historical Society.
Pat enjoyed time with her family, watching ME-TV, the Army/Navy football game and Little League World Series baseball. She was a kind, loving person with a great sense of humor who will be greatly missed.
Pat is survived by her son, Dennis Wachal of Alburnett; daughter, Denise Wachal of Marion; sisters, Mavis Spry of Tuscon, Ariz., Elizabeth Bentrott of DeWitt and Jackie (Joe) Riegert of Tuscon; brother, Monty (Pam) Long of St. Johns, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Don (Lynne) Wachal of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, Dottie (Ron) Romine of Mesa, Ariz., and Sharon Long of Cedar Rapids; and 30 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Max; brothers, Gale Long, Bill Long and Max Long; sisters, Fonda Toms and Carole Nerone; brothers-in-law, Don Spry, Wilbur Bentrott, Harry Toms and Robert Hagerman; and sisters-in-law, Maxine Long and Audrey Hagerman.
Memorials may be directed to the Alburnett Historical Society in Pat's memory.
