Patricia “Pat” Ellen Ervin
Cedar Rapids
Patricia “Pat” Ellen Ervin was born on August 18, 1943, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, to Carol Edith (Krosen) Handy and Arnold Herschel Handy. She was united in marriage to Dr. Thomas Hoyne Ervin on June 23, 1963.
Pat dedicated over 30 years of her life to education as a remedial reading specialist, helping countless children learn to read. She was a master gardener, an avid bridge player, and a voracious reader. Pat also gave generously of her time, volunteering at her church and at the Indian Creek Nature Center. She created a beautiful home, lovingly tended her flower and vegetable gardens, and was known for her exceptional homemade pies.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. Tom Ervin, and their three children: Ellen Carol Miller (Darran Hidder) of Cedar Rapids; Erik Hoyne Ervin (Tisha Smith) of Wilmington, Delaware; and Erin Elizabeth Schlosser (Greg) of Denver, Colorado. She also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren—Olivia (Jackson) Nichols, Jack Miller, Emma (Andy) Richter, Lulu Schlosser, and Oliver Schlosser—and one great-granddaughter, Rae Caroline Nichols.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral, memorial service, or visitation. Her family will honor her life by scattering her ashes on her childhood family farm in Percival, Iowa.
Please share your support and memories with Pat’s family on her Tribute Wall at www.stewartbaxter.com under Obituaries.
