Patricia Ann (Hyde) Matt, 80, of Elkader, died peacefully on Aug. 5, 2014, at the Elkader Care Center.
She was born Nov. 1, 1933, in Elkader, to LeRoy and Elsie (Perry) Hyde. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and graduated from Elkader Public School in 1952. She attended the University of Dubuque for one year and earned a certificate in elementary education from Clarke College in 1955. At age 53, she earned a B.A. degree in elementary and art education from Upper Iowa University in Fayette. She started as a kindergarten teacher in Waukon before spending most of her 30-year career teaching in the Central Community School District. Her last teaching assignment was at the private Jewish School in Postville.
Miss Hyde married Harold Edward Matt on Aug. 8, 1959, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elkader.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Harold, of Elkader; her children, Michele of West Des Moines and Michael of Phoenix; three grandchildren, Christian, Connor and Shayla; and lots of relatives, friends and former students!
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marjonelle; and a brother and sister who died at birth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, with visitation one hour before, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader, with the Very Rev. Paul R. Peters as celebrant. A celebration of Pat's life will immediately follow the service in the St. Joseph Church Hall.
