Patricia Joy (Duncalf) Petersen, 93, passed away June 3, 2022, at the Keystone Care Center in Keystone.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held
at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne, with the Rev. Craig Steimel as celebrant. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Internment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery near Keystone. Memorials may be directed to Patty’s lifelong parish, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Patty was born on Dec. 10, 1928, near Luzerne, the daughter of George and Mary Eva Duncalf. She graduated from Van Horne High School in 1947 where she was a cheerleader for her future husband.
She was united in marriage to Ralph Petersen on Aug. 21, 1948, at Immaculate Conception in Cedar Rapids. They moved to the home farm in 1952 near Van Horne.
Patty was a homemaker and great cook and baker. She loved to make pies and cakes with angel food cake and Swedish tea rings for Christmas was her specialty. She also enjoyed making homemade noodles for the family dinners but she also enjoyed going out to eat and her and Ralph were regulars a restaurants in the area. She was always active in her local church and women’s groups and enjoyed the Red Hat ladies and their outings.
She is survived by her children, Steve (Judy) Petersen of Chelsea and Sherry (Dave) Gahring of Keystone; five grandchildren, Eric (Andrea) Petersen and John (Misty) Gahring; Michael (Nikki) Gahring; Dan (Mary) Gahring and Jennifer (Harm) Jass; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Bernice Petersen and Leona Danker; stepgrandchildren, Tracy Wauters, Ron Stewart and Rob Stewart; along with numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Patty was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her parents; parents-in-law, Hans and Lena Petersen; her brothers, Delbert, Joseph and Gerald; her sisters, Bernice (Kaestner) and Jean (Lynch); her grandson, Christopher Petersen; along with special friend Ilene Strellner.
