PATRICIA J. DUNAHUGH (MCMULLAN) 4/3/1945 5/7/2017 Cedar Rapids Patti passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at age 72. She was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Marian and Edwin Pitts and moved to Oregon in 1964, with husband David Dunahugh. They had a daughter Amy in 1969 and divorced about two years later. Patti worked hard, put herself through dental hygiene school and worked as a hygienist until she retired in 1992. Prior to retiring and while working fulltime, she obtained her B.S. in communications in 1991. She had many passions, including playing guitar and singing. She met J. Bart McMullan Jr., M.D., in 1979 while they were both in a band called The Lovehandles. They were married in January 1980. The band played and performed together for 10 years. Patti also set up a music room at home to continue her love of singing and playing music. Patti and her family loved sailing and they traveled to many beautiful destinations together. Always managing their own charter boats, they visited the British Virgin Islands, Tonga, Tahiti and French Polynesia, St. Lucia and Grenada, and took almost annual trips to the San Juan Islands in Puget Sound. She and Bart also traveled to the Galapagos Islands, Africa, Antarctica and the Amazon. During their amazing adventures, Patti pursued her passion for photography and printed and framed many of her stunning photographs for display at their homes in Portland and Black Butte Ranch. Patti loved spending time with friends and family. She was kind and generous and was always the life of the party with her infectious laugh and quick wit. She loved animals, including her German shepherds and all the wild critters she helped during her many years as a volunteer at the Portland Audubon Society and as a wildlife rehabilitator. She had also made their residence properties Certified Wildlife Habitats. Patti always had many projects going, had a never-ending to-do list for Bart, and was a master with their pressure washer. She was an amazing gardener and loved making their yards beautiful and peaceful. Patti was independent and strong, yet loving and soft in so many ways. She loved to cook and and made exquisite meals for friends and family to enjoy. Patti was a driving force in many of our lives. She leaves a vast emptiness for those who knew and loved her. Patti is survived by her husband, Bart; daughter, Amy; brother, George; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Susan; brother, David; and parents. A private gathering will be scheduled at a later date.
