Patricia Powers Burke, 86, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, Iowa, passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, at Arbor Place within The Meth-Wick Community.
A memorial Mass will be held for family and friends at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marion with Father David O'Connor officiating. All guests are required to wear a face mask and abide by social distancing guidelines. A livestream of the funeral Mass may be accessed on the St. Joseph's Catholic Church website www.stjoesmarion.org. Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Marion will be assisting the family.
Pat "Patty" was born Nov. 27, 1934, to Joseph A. Powers and Julia F. (McMahon) Powers in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Franklin High School and was then employed by Allis Chalmers, where she met the love of her life, Jim Burke. Pat and Jim were married on June 2, 1956, in Cedar Rapids. Pat loved spending time with her family, camping, traveling, baking pies, sewing, going to auctions and garage sales, and helping to shape the lives of her children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pat is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Jim Burke; her five children, Linda (David) Schultz of Naples, Fla., Peggy Chute of Marion, John (Sheryl) Burke of Robins, Carol (Dave) Kraayenbrink of Waukee, Iowa, and Brenda (Bill) Stroschein of Marion; 12 grandchildren, Carrie (Ted) Semelroth, Emily (Wes Mallgren) Schultz, Sara (Brandon) DeWitt, Dan Chute, Ava and Olivia Burke, Danielle and Nicole Kraayenbrink, Jordan (Kaelin), Austin, Ryan and Madison Stroschein; as well as seven great-grandchildren, Landon, Addyson and Aiden Semelroth, Gavin and Quinton Mallgren, and Grace and Atlee DeWitt. Pat is also survived by her brothers, George Powers and Joe (Janet) Powers; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph and Julia Powers; her sisters, Mary (Oliver) Klein, Joan (Wallace) Kann and Julia Darlene Powers; and sister-in-law, Holly Powers.
