A. Patricia "Pat" Brokaw, 92, of Iowa City, passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. A luncheon will be served in the St. Wenceslaus Parish Hall following Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or Iowa City Hospice.
Pat was born Sept. 14, 1922, in East Orange, N.J., the daughter of Eugene and Adelaide (Voorhees) Whelan. She was united in marriage to John Brokaw on April 4, 1946, in East Orange. He preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1995.
Pat was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, a long-time volunteer at Mercy Home Healthcare and an active volunteer at Oaknoll where she served as president of the resident council and helped to form the welcome committee for new residents. She never turned down the chance to play a game of bridge.
Pat is survived by her seven children, Ann (Michael) Tobin of San Rafael, Calif., John (Barb) Brokaw of Phoenix, Ariz., Susan (James) Weichselbaum of Golden, Colo., William (Brigitte) Brokaw of Cary, Ill., Karen Steggall of Cedar Rapids, Peter Brokaw of Iowa City and Jean (David) Sellnau of Anamosa; one sister, Mary Jane Woram of Dallas, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren with four soon to arrive.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
