Patricia Anne Balk, 70, of Marion, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a brief struggle with cancer.
Patricia was born July 30, 1947, in Shellsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer (Barney) and Edna O'Shannon.
Patricia is survived by her children, Christina, and her husband, Jason Cline, and Michael, and his wife, Adrienne Balk; and three grandchildren, Paige, Zachary and Liam. She also is survived by her longtime partner, Dale Schafer.
In addition to raising two children, Patricia dedicated herself to her vocation as a Head Start teacher. Mentoring at-risk children brought her joy and satisfaction.
A memorial service will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church in Marion at 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, with visitation starting at 4 p.m. at the church.
Entrusted with the arrangements is Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
