Patricia A. “Pat” McTaggart, age 88, longtime resident of this area, died on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Downtown Campus, surrounded by her family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 10 am at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City. Visitation will take place at the parish on Wednesday from 3 pm till 6:30 pm. A parish rosary will be recited beginning at 3 pm on Wednesday. The burial will be at the Corpus Christi Cemetery in Ft. Dodge at 4 pm on Thursday. Patricia Ann Vit was born January 25, 1937, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Gladys (Sawyer) Vit. Following graduation from Sacred Heart High School in Ft. Dodge, she attended and graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City. On November 21, 1959, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” McTaggart at Sacred Heart Church in Ft. Dodge. The couple and their family moved to Coralville in 1966, where soon after Pat began a 30-year career as a nurse at the former Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, retiring in 1999.
Pat was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City, the Altar & Rosary Society, the founding member of Johnson County Right To Life, member of Birthright, the Christian Coalition, Catholic Daughters of America, and the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. Her Catholic faith was the backbone of Pat. Her family and friends brought her great love and joy. She always had a smile or a joke to share. You would find Pat cheering on City High Basketball and the Iowa Hawkeyes football and men’s and women’s basketball. She enjoyed playing games with anyone and had a definite soft spot for animals and babies.
Her family includes her children, Patti McTaggart, Bill McTaggart (Velina) and Julie Homewood (Mike); grandchildren, Ann-Marie Kiernan (Devon), Mary Beth Loudon(Zach), Christopher McTaggart, Corey Homewood (Michelle), Kelsey Laverdiere (Ryan), Kady Hall (Andrew) and Kylee Cutler (Noah); great-grandchildren, Kya, Ryles, Kora, Vayda, Pearl, Roxie, and Dean; brothers, Thomas Vit (Ellen) and William Vit (Becky) and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved very much.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, brother Frank, husband Bill and their son, Thomas M. McTaggart.
