Patramanis, John George
John George Patramanis of Des Moines, departed peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2013, at the age of 72, with his family by his side.
John is survived by his faithful wife, Georgia of 39 years; loving daughters, Christina (James Caldwell) and Maria Patramanis; brother, Mike (Vickie) Patramanis; nephews; nieces; and other caring relatives.
John, a first generation Cretan-American, was born in Cedar Rapids in 1941.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, George and Afrodite Patramanis; and brother, baby Patramanis.
John received his BA in Political Science from Coe College and his Master's Degree in Economics from Drake University. He proudly served the state of Iowa for 37 years as bureau chief for Division of Labor Services.
A devoted servant of the Greek Orthodox faith, John was involved in the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint George in many capacities including the church board, of which he held the office of president for several years. John was an active member of AHEPA, serving as treasurer for the Des Moines Chapter and as an executive committee member of the AHEPA National board of directors. He recently received the award of Ahepan of the Year for the Grainfield District.
Completing his other great works and roles in this life, John found goodness as a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Shrine.
Visitation services will be held at Iles Funeral Home Westover Chapter in Des Moines Thursday, July 4, from 5 to 6 p.m. with a Trisagion service to follow at 6 p.m. On Friday, the funeral will begin at 10 a.m. at Greek Orthodox Church of St. George with burial to follow at Des Moines Masonic Cemetery. Before the funeral, there will be a Masonic ceremony at 9 a.m. at the funeral home.
