Leighton E. Passmore was born Dec. 19, 1927, in rural Muscatine County, the son of Chester and Lois (Hepker) Passmore. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. Returning to this area, he began a career as an electrician with the University of Iowa. He was united in marriage to Alice Fay Hagy on Dec. 3, 1983, in Iowa City. The couple continued living in Iowa City until moving back to West Liberty in 1998. Lee was a member of the Cedar Valley United Methodist Church and the Coralville American Legion. He enjoyed his monthly coffee times with former co-workers; offering to help anyone ever in need; and just tinkering around the house, garage, and with his neighbors!
His family includes his wife, Alice; children, Shelly Hadley (Greg Schudy) of North Liberty, Sharon Mitchell (Bill) of Downey, Sharla Moore (Stan) of Fairfax, and Stacey Fry (Kerry) of Muscatine; stepchildren, Peg MacDonald (Gary) of Plymouth, Mass., and Jill Seering (Randall Barnes) of Paducah, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna Fae Sterner (Darel) of West Liberty, and Vicki Brei of Marion; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Sandra Reinhart and Susan Moore; and a grandson, Cameron Hadley.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Leighton's family and his services.
