Parrott, Joseph P.
Joseph P. Parrott, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, May 14, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital from complications of pneumonia. There will be no services per Joe's wishes.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Darlene “Polly”; his children, Sharon Domino of Indianapolis, Judy Bousquet of Knoxville, Tenn., and Ralph Parrott of Sebring, Fla.; two grandchildren, Thomas (Josetta) Domino of Atlanta, Ga., and Brett (Denise) Jungbluth of Seattle, Wash.; four great-grandchildren, Griffin and Hailey Domino and Liam and Emma Jungbluth; two sisters, Henrietta Watt of Kalona and Ursula Teggatz of Iowa City; two brothers, Donald Parrott of Cedar Rapids and Leo (Ardie) Parrott of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; two sisters; son-in-law, Michael Domino; and daughter-in-law, Ramona Parrott.
Joe was born March 26, 1926, the son of Charles and Anna (Neuman) Parrott, in Iowa City, Iowa. He attended Iowa City High School before entering the United States Navy during World War II, where he served as a gunner on the Hornett II. After his discharge, he returned to Iowa and began to work for Rockwell-Collins as a tool and die maker. On Feb. 6, 1953, Joe was united in marriage to Darlene Cornthwaite in Peoria, Ill. After 33 years of service at Rockwell-Collins, retiring in 1984, he volunteered for 20 years at the Indian Creek Nature Center as a TN and a Bushmaster.
Memorials may be directed to Indian Creek Nature Center or to the charity of donor's choice in memory of Joe.
