Parkinson, Darold Dean
Darold Dean Parkinson, 80, of Edgewood, died at his residence near Edgewood on Tuesday, April 30, 2013.
He was born Dec. 24, 1932, near Edgewood, at his home on the farm near Wolf Creek, the son of William and Frieda (Waterman) Parkinson. Darold was raised and educated at Elk Center rural country school.
Darold farmed with his dad for several years and did custom baling for area farmers. He was then employed as a carpenter for Buck Whitman and was a heavy equipment operator for Madlom Quarries in Edgewood. Darold was united in marriage to Mary Schnieders on Aug. 21, 1959. He went to work on his own as a carpenter and also did cement work. He operated and owned his own bicycle and small engine repair business and took great pride in his work. He retired in 1990.
Darold enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, playing cards, and his pet deer. He also loved his restored antique cub cadet tractor and flying airplanes.
He enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughters, and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Parkinson of Edgewood; five children, Darla Kelchen (Del Timmerman) of Strawberry Point, Marla Sullivan of Edgewood, Dena (Tod) Struck of Webster, Fla., Kathy (Ron) Riechers of Lamont and Bobbi (Kraig) Feldmann of New Vienna; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Darold was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Emogene (Clifford) Kauffman; and a son-in-law, Tom Kelchen.

Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood, by Pastor Roland Waterman. Visitation: 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. service time Saturday at the funeral home. Interment: Edgewood City Cemetery, Edgewood.
