Pape, Dale
Dale Pape, 77, of Eldorado, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Ossian Senior Hospice Home in Ossian. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 12, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Eldorado, with the Rev. Ginny Olson as officiant. Interment will follow at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Burnham-Wood Funeral Home in West Union.
Dale Peter Pape was born Nov. 4, 1934, in rural Military Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa to Elmer and Stella (Trapp) Pape. Dale attended Dover No. 6 Rural School and was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado. On Nov. 5, 1960, Dale was united in marriage with Bonnie Jaster at St. Peter Lutheran Church. To this union three children were born.
The couple lived in rural Eldorado for many years. Dale served in the United States Army on active duty for two years, being honorably discharged in 1958.
Dale farmed and milked cows, drove truck for George Wolters Trucking in Luana and later for a livestock transport company, F and W Trucking in Ossian. For a period of time, he worked on a bridge crew and later ran a bulldozer for Leslie Lauer and Sons Excavating and Grading in West Union. Following the sale of the milk cows in 1994, Dale retired from farming.
He was a member of Lutheran Brotherhood and Farm Veterans. Dale served on the St. Peter Lutheran Church Council and was a trustee. During his spare time, he drove stock car, enjoyed mushroom hunting and playing cards, especially pinochle.
Dale is survived by his wife, Bonnie Pape of Eldorado; his three children, Denise (Roger) Schutte of Monona, Pete Pape of Eldorado and Diann Pape of West Union; his five grandchildren, Lance (Jonna) Schutte of Monona, Nathan Schutte of Monona, Josh Schutte of Monona, Kalista (Dustin) Moneypenny of Palo and Aleshia Pape and her fiance, Joe Semler, of Keswick; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Briella Schutte of Monona; two sisters, Margie Chamberlain of Waukon and Elma Darnall of West Union; one brother, Allen “Butch” Pape and his wife, Wanda, of McGregor; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dean Pape; two sisters, Vergie Fels and Irene Moen; and three brothers-in-law, Johnnie Moen, Jim Darnall and Wayne Chamberlain.
