Pagel, Vernon 'Bud' LeRoy
Vernon “Bud” LeRoy Pagel, 83, of Tama, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 21, at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama, with Pastor Kerry Jech officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Bud was born on Aug. 6, 1928, in Tama, the son of Vern and Minnie (Lacina) Pagel. He graduated from Tama High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan College for two years. Bud was united in marriage to Madelyn Rank on Dec. 31, 1949, in Toledo, Iowa. He worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for over 40 years. After retirement, Bud enjoyed spending his winters in Sanibel Island, Fla. He attended New Hope Christian Church in Marshalltown. Bud enjoyed doing wood working crafts, gardening, taking long walks and bicycling. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and was lovingly known to them as “Boppa.”
Bud was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. His faith in Jesus Christ and his kind spirit impacted all who knew him.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, Madelyn.
Survivors include his three children, Kim (Sharon) of Cedar Rapids, Robbin (Randy) Olsen of Toledo, and Heidi (Stan) Anderson of Grimes; nine grandchildren, Ryan (Natalie) Pagel, Jason (Erin) Pagel, Joshua (Diana) Pagel, Jonathan (Trista) Pagel, Brooke (Tim) Owens, Ashley Olsen, Nicholas Olsen, Courtney Anderson and Lindsey Anderson; and one sister, Norma (Lumir) Newmeister of Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that gifts be made to the Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
