Page, David Kenneth
David Kenneth Page, 68, of Cedar Falls, died unexpectedly Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at South Padre Island, Texas, while on an extended motor home vacation. He was born Jan. 19, 1942, in Ames, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Lulu Bowen Page. He married Marilyn Dunlap of Ames, now Cedar Falls, on July 11, 1964. They had two sons, Brian (Elizabeth) and Brad (Amy), both of Cedar Falls. On July 3, 1993, he and his present wife, Karen, were married at their home outside of Cedar Falls.
He graduated from Ames High School in 1960, and participated in football and also track under Hall of Fame track coach, Hy Covey. He attended ISTC from 1960 to 1964, where he participated in football. He graduated in 1964, with a degree in Industrial Arts and began coaching at Mason City. He attended graduate school at Ball State in Muncie, Ind., and received his master's degree in 1966. After returning to Mason City to teach and coach, he accepted a position at Cedar Falls High School in 1968, teaching industrial tech and coaching. He first coached sophomore football, then became the CF Defensive Coordinator. In 1972, he helped coach the CF Tigers to a 9-0 undefeated team and a semifinal spot in the first playoff game in Iowa history. He also helped coach track and swimming for several years and was active in the Cedar Falls Education Association, serving as president and chief negotiator for several years.
In 1983, he and Todd Hunemuller formed a partnership as Oakridge Real Estate Co. Later he and Todd, along with Denny Lenth, formed the Oakridge Construction Co., and built many homes in the area. He has been a real estate broker and owner at Oakridge since that time helping the company grow with over 50 associates.
Among his many achievements are past president of Waterloo-Cedar Falls Board of Realtors, 1992-1993; Realtor of the year, 1998; President's Special Award, 1998 and 2004; and Distinguished Realtor of the Year award, 2009.
Dave and his wife, Karen, have enjoyed traveling in recent years to their vacation homes in Minnesota and Colorado, as well as with their motor home. He enjoyed all of his grandchildren and loved to tease and make the time spent together full of fun activities. But his best buddy was the youngest, Gavin, who enjoyed being with his “Papa.”
Survived by his wife; two sons, Brian (Elizabeth) and Brad (Amy); a grandson, Gavin all of Cedar Falls; and a brother, Don (Shari) Page and nephews Ben (Elizabeth) and Joel, all of Omaha, Neb.
Also, stepchildren and grandchildren, Jeff Dotseth (Joni) and sons Joel and Erick of Coralville, David Dotseth (Wendy) and children, Christopher and Amanda of Muscatine, Michael Dotseth (Sylvia) and children Kelly, Alex, Mark and Gregory, all of Colorado Springs, and Laura Dotseth (Dave Larsen) and children Emily Streeper, Anna Streeper, Will and Bailey Larsen all of Falcon Heights, Minn.
Preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kirk Page; and a nephew, Timothy Page.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls, at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Cedar Falls High School Football Scholarship or First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls.
