Otte, Bernfried H. 'Bernie'
Bernfried H. “Bernie” Otte, 80, of Amana, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway, with Father Brian Dellaert officiating. Burial will be in Lenox Cemetery, north of Middle Amana. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
Bernie is survived by his children, Jutta Denson (Morris) of Marengo, Renate Schulte (Harold) of Amana, Margaret Trumpold (Lynn) of Middle Amana, Peter Otte (Kim) of Cedar Falls and Robert Otte (Denise) of Marengo; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Dieter Otte of Markesan, Wis.; and two brothers-in-law, Ray Bender and Verlin Dickman (MaryJo), both of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marianne; two sisters, Jutta Bender and Sigrid Dickman; and a son-in-law, Neil Denson.
Bernfried Hubertus Otte was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Moschen, Germany, the son of Max and Charlotte (Tilch) Otte. Bernie and Marianne Rys, of Erding, Germany, were married for 39 years. He was administrator of Colonial Manor of Amana for 25 years. Bernie, an accomplished gunsmith, also operated Otte's Gun Shop in Amana.
Bernie's family graciously thank Dr. Martin Weisenfeld and staff at Oncology Associates for their sincere care in treating Bernie the past 10 years and to the staff of Hospice of Mercy.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
